The Spirit of Education
In The Spirit of Education a happy mother is proudly getting her unhappy child ready for school. In my opinion it seems that this good mother has provided a little too much for her child to attend school with. She has over loaded him with unnecessary things to be the scholar she is expecting. He cannot go out and do all she wants of him in one day. By the child’s expression, the way he is standing and holding all of the things his mother has given him it seems that he is not ready for school at all. Maybe she is already expecting way too much out of him on an ordinary day of school.

I see where you're going with your response. Sometimes parents expect way too much out of their children.
I agree that kid looked like he was more disappointed than anything else. It seemed like the mother wanted credit for things that haven't even happened yet.
I also thought the same thing when I looked at the painting. I think that the mother was putting too much pressure on her child to succeed and he didn't look the least bit enthused.
I never really thought about it like that but I see where your coming from, alot of parents try to make decisions for their kids and try to prepare them to much!
